In CNG XXVII (29 September 1993), lot 726, the CNG cataloger describes the origin of these coins: "Several tribes of Celtic Gauls had settled in Asia Minor in the 3rd century BC in a region that became known as Galatia. They were frequently employed as mercinaries, and these coins may have been struck by them from their booty."
